Default Traffic Cops last night

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00v8...els_of_Fortune/

of interest to me because I know the area it was filmed in, however.......

fat munter, lies to the Police about her identity, driving unaccompanied on a provisional licence - fined £40

gobby tipsy cyclist - fined the best part of £1000 for various misdemeanours including cycling without lights, but mainly failing the attitude test

Means testing for fines, is a wonderful thing

The cyclist had me thinking of you, "no I'm not giving you my name"

That pissed me off. You know she'll be straight back out on the road again. Having those three points on her licence is really going to deter her.

haha

difference is, I have no problem giving my name if I know I've done something wrong, or something that any reasonable person would agree to be suspicious

the one I draw the line at is telling people my occupation - wtf has that got to do with anyone?

although I must try 'nuclear weapons expert' or 'astronaut' if it happens again

wonder if that would also fail the attitude test?

the problem with the bloke on the prog was that he was pissed and thought he was in the right

drink does that to you

bet he regrets it now

We had the same conversation at home last night after it was on and then again in the office this morning.

She had a far worse offence, driving on provisional, uninsured with unrestrained kids in the back.

Cyclist did have an attitude problem though but felt that the taller of the police was very patronising to him but of course we don't know how much was edited out.

Liked the traffic cop who applied common sense with the cyclist and his missing number plate.

That cyclist was a bell end. I always thought you could be prosecuted for drink driving while on a bike?

Re the Astra driver .... Levels of fines are not something the officer can dictate sadly. I used to get sick of stuff being dropped or not followed up when the offences were obvious and even when admitted ! All the officer can do is submit the report.

Re the cyclist ... I have had many conversations like that with people - I doubt the officer said anything other than was shown .... People like him tend to decide they don't like one officer no matter what the officer says ... and they just direct the 'stop' downhill themselves. You really would have to go out with a traffic officer to believe the way people speak to them. I am glad I am away from it .... and yes, it is an offence to be drunk in charge of a pedal cycle ... no breath test though - the offence is from the Licensing Act of 1872

I would imagine the fine for the cyclist not only reflected his ability to pay but also the main bit being the failing to stop. Maybe he spoke to the Magistrates in the same manner he spoke to the officers

I'm always amazed at how people speak to the Police when I watch these programmes. I wouldn't dare to speak to someone in authority like that. The cyclist should have shut up and said thank you officer and gone on his merry way.

Worse one I saw was a cocky 19 year old CTR driver who was unbelievably arrogant and full of himself and gave out the standard 'I pay your wages' 'haven't you got anything better to do'.....
