Turbo problem
A problem just started happening this morning with my T5 (Volvo
).
As the turbo is about to come in, the engine bogs down and there is a delay before the power comes in. This gets worse with the more throttle you give it to the point where my head nearly ended up in the steering wheel. Once the turbo is going it appears to be fine.
Does anyone have a good idea of what could be wrong and more importantly, how serious the problem is? I'm not taking it to a Volvo dealer as I don't fancy being bummed this month.

Well, seeing you don't state how old the car is, I'll presume that someone's not been letting it cool down before switching it off and the turbo or wastegate are starting to seize.
You may be able to free off the wastegate, but it's probably a re-con turbo.
Try a diagnostic, because it may just be the electrickery, if you're lucky.

How old is it? is it an 850?
Not that I know the answer, the only thing I know about them is that the turbos can crack. Apparently to find out, you park it up and rev it gently, but enough for the turbo to engage for a minute or so, then roll it back and check for oil..
Mine is fine, just needs some TLC on the undercarriage and new cog on the starter motor

First time anyone's said "get you" when I've told them I drive that thing
I think it might actually be an air leak. Seems more likely than anything seizing as once it is going it is fine. I might have to resign myself to a visit to the dealer
