Turbo Wagon
I think there are a few Scooby fans on here. I need a sensible, large, second car as a foil to the S, and so I can put her away in the garage during the wet winters. I think a turbo rally car fits the bill nicely!

What do we think? I've seen it and it is well kept and tidy. Gear shift feels a little loose, but don't know whether that might simply be characteristic (it's never going to be as tight as the S). There was also some oil buring on the engine producing a little smoke - I suggested to the guy I might still be interested if the car got it's due service and a clean bill of health. Otherwise, she was in great nick for a 13 year old.
Any thoughts guys?

I ran one until just after Christmas alongside the Exige, year end report here.
Be careful of oil burning, it can indicate a turbo on it's way out, which gets expensive. The gear shift felt quite loose on mine though, it was fine.

Apart from being ugly they are a good cheap performance wagon.
The burning oil smell is almost certainly oil dripping from perished rocker cover gaskets onto the manifold.
This is a VERY common Suabru boxer engine fault, not expensive to fix but a good haggle point.
The manifolds are right below the rocker covers and they bake the the gaskets.
Gearbox on old or tuned units can be problematic, they seem particularly weak in 3rd so listen for any whining.
Otherwise solid and easily taken to about 270bhp for less than

Easily upgraded for very little. Wagons came with the smaller T4 turbo as opposed to the T5 in saloon models. Very easy upgrade is to switch to the T5 and install the relevant ECU, Z4 ECU is very popular. Should only cost

Mikey K runs a Legacy - looks quite good and was cheap. Ask him

3.0R spec B Tourer 240 BHP
I looked at JDM STi impreza wagons, tweaking UK cars etc
Just couldn't get past the interior quality and the size.
Hence the Legacy
Interior is up there with BMW
3.0 H6 engine is bullet proof
Great on the B roads
Civilised on the M ways
Loaded with kit
Super cheaper as well
I paid
JMRGV,
Is that a WRX or UK spec?
If you can, try and stretch to a MY99/00 model. It has the Phase II engine and revised interior / exterior.
I would tend to avoid MY97/98 as they can suffer from piston slap. Was very common. Ones before that had no real issues.
Steve is also correct on the rocker cover gaskets, although it's quite a cheap fix to replace.
