Default Volvo V70 Sighting !

I overtook a black Volvo S70 saloon (big silver aerial, no stickers, tow bar etc.) on a dual carraigeway (A24) on the way home last night.

I watched him closely in the mirror as I sped along at 72MPH.

Sure enough, just before the available stopping point, he flashed those lovely little blue lights behind the grill and indiacated that I should pull in.

Questioning his parentage, I hopped out and cheerily said "well it wasn't the speed so it must be the number plate "

He stunned me with his response which started out..."well, I was going to use that as an excuse if I needed to but I'm sorry but I really wanted a look at your car....do you mind ?"...He then proceeded to detail all S2K features and benefits, slated the constant unfair comparison with Boxters, said it was streets ahead of anything else etc. etc.......

These comments were interspersed with silences and then comments like.."God, it is beautiful isn't it ?...."

He then thanked me for my time and went about his merry way.
I was so shocked, I forgot to get his number plate.

So, if you see a black Volvo S70 saloon (with wing) and a silver aerial on the A24 around Horsham, drive slowly or make sure your car is sparkling !!

WOW - Great story, but what an abuse of power as Alex says.

There is a charge of 'wasting the police's time' so there must be an equivalent 'wasting the publics time' charge.

(The charge would never stick of course - how can admiring an S2000 be wasting time! )

Many years ago I had one of the first 16v Renault Clio's in the country and I was stopped on the M4 for more or less the same reason. OK I had been doing over 100 but I got a warning as he had a good look over the car.

As he left he said that this was likely to be the first of many of these that he would be stopping.

An abuse of power is when they give you a ticket, this is just a guy behaving like a human being

might have been an abuse of power, but...shipley is way more likely to get a slap on the wrist if he's seen moving "briskly" by the friendly copper...
