Well, luxury, style, space, able to tow, handles reasonably well and makes you feel special once inside.....
Only one choice, there are downsides though, reliability is reputed to be average at best, but treated well by a good independant they do OK......
For your budget, you'd get newer than this by a long way too......

EDIT - there's this place http://www.blackandwhitegarage.com/ who usually have a few in (and loads of other stuff to drool over).

Sorry !!
[QUOTE=matthehat17,Oct 31 2006, 04:56 PM] Now your other choice... the Alpina B3S Cabrio... major, major
Engine is derived from the old 2.8 BMW lump but has developed significantly over the years to the 3.4-litre engine you get now (the S on the badge denotes it is a 3.4, not 3.3). basically, Alpina took the 2.8 out to 3-litres, then 3.2, then 3.3 and finally 3.4 (it's actually 3346 and so still technically 3.3 litres, but what the hey?!) and modifying cams, pistons, inlet ports and the head to suit.
It's a beautiful engine, the car drives amazingly (it is so much more than a 3-Series Convertible) and you'll NEVER park next to another Alpina, unless you go to a BMW show. As it's based on the E46 soft-top, I think a towbar can be added quite easily. You're looking at 305bhp, 268lbf.ft of torque and performance stats of 0-62mph in 6.3 and 165mph flat out (no limiter).
If you want, I can send you a photocopy of the six-page buying guide I did on it back in October 2003, when it was brand new. Just a troubleshooting guide. PM me if you want it and I'll sort it out tomorrow in the office...

Didn't you mention fuel consumption somewhere

Don't start telling me how good Scoobies are, I've just about talked myself out of them

I can't give you any proper figures, but they're much worse than the S, and driving them gently doesn't seem to help much either. And that's based on the non-STI/PPP one's I've had the pleasure of.
I'm going to be speccing up my trailer soon, I'm going for a tyre rack and storage box so starting to wonder if I really need an estate
