Everything I've read about TVRs suggest that the reliability problems they have are to do with a number of the the Speed Six engines needing rebuilds after 30k miles.

The earlier Rover V8s were bombproof in comparison.

I love TVRs, but I wouldn't waste my cash running one. I saw a mate spend a lot of money keeping a 5.0l Chim on the road for 2 years.

No, he said that as part of their natural life cycle they require to be stripped down every 30k miles. Do that and they run just fine.

And the other comment related to them being costly to keep on the road (i.e. servicing costs).

Neither of those facts prove that TVR's fall to bits as you claim (without as yet stating your basis for said claim).
