We went to have a look at the EOS Ian but I wasn't overly impressed. It looked rather dumpy with the roof up and I found the gratuitous use of chrome inside and out not to my taste. The boot wasn't very useful with the roof down - lots of intrusions into it - and despite reviews saying it was a true 4 seater I would not want to spend too much time in the back

At your age? Are bits of you dropping off?

Away with you man, where's Vernon when you need him?

One of my clients was a BMw fan and his wife talked him into a Merc. he's furious about the service, build quality, mechanics, electrics. I would be hard pressed to like one knowing what he's gone through, can't think the 55 would be much more reliable it is a Merc?

What about a 5 series softy?

mjirvine has just swapped his S for and SLK (320 I think). You could pm him for some first hand feedback and comparisons ...

Everyone I know with a Mercedes (a C55AMG an E320, an ML and a C220 diesel) has had some kind of issue with the electrics, niggling mechanical faults or in one case, flaking paint.

I don't know much about the new SLK but Mercedes haven't upped their game regarding build quality, then I couldn't in all honesty see the SLK being any better.

I have had an exchange of PMs with mjirvine who is still a member of the board and swapped his S2000 for an SLK 350. He is very positive about the car and has persuaded me to seriously look at that model rather than the 280.

I have done a lot of searching on the net and for what it's worth 90% of feedback from SLK owners (around 60 in total) has been positive. There is the odd rogue car but the same could be said of the S2000. Indeed I had my gearbox, clutch and wheels changed in the first year as well as taking it back for the spark plug fix.

Colleen will not entertain another S and as we are trading in her Type R for it I have to listen (don't I?).

I have looked at the Z4 and even a Boxter but really want a hard top. I even found myself looking at the new folding hard top MX5.
