Given your M5 is a few years old, how well have the alloys stood up to the years. I ask cos my wife's 3 series is just over 3 years old and the front set of alloys are severely bubbled behind the spokes (they are what BMW call the M Sport wheel which you see quite often). BMW refuesd it as a warranty claim but it looks pretty crap to me - far worse than any other car I've owned. Only solution is a refurb if I can free the car up for a week or two.

it's five years old and there was a little (and I mean a little) bubbling around the rear/base of the spokes and in the vicinity of the valves

however, you couldn't see this on a normal inspection, so it never bothered me. On the other hand, two wheels had been subjected to a poor cosmetic refurb prior to my ownership and the other two had enough curbing to irritate me. Add five year's worth of minor wear and tear, and then the need for new tyres - no brainer really

tbh, I didn't even check the warranty, which I know is six years on bodywork, because I thought it would be taking the mick to complain and I would get short shrift anyway

I can understand you being unhappy after three years though, especially as you say the bubbling is severe

my wheels, which are apparently 'black chrome' are costing

my tyres were shot so thought it was a good time to get the wheels done
Do you know WW do very good deals on tyres as well Pete????

I dida search of the internet tyre suppliers for the NSX - found a good price and WW beat it.....and fitted them (effectively for free) and as they are in the business of fixing buggered wheels, are very careful when fitting tyres.

I did and am waitng for them to quote me happy

I like the idea, not least because it avoids any arguments about damaged rims

The only issue I face is whether to change tyre manufacturer or not

I've been using Goodyears, and although they have been hardwearing and offer good grip in all weathers, they deteriorate badly as they age, to the extent that (although still legal) they tramline and wander alarmingly now

I have no scientific basis for this judgement, other than knowledge of the weight of the car and the lateral forces it can generate, but I also believe that the car would be suited to a tyre with a stiff sidewall (like the S02)

It is a pain changing tyres though - as you can hardly try before you buy and invariably have to base your decision on a combination other peoples' opinions and your own crystal ball gazing

I've just had my wheels back from Wicked Wheels at Guildford ..... the car sat on axle stands for a week but now looks great

I am very pleased with the work they did ..... they came to me arriving exactly when they said and delivering them back exactly as promised - not something that seems to happen much these days.

They have to send the S2K wheels off as they can't do the diamond cut finish but whoever does them has done a super job. The Crawley branch has done a wheel for me before on my TVR and that was good as well.

I would post pictures but the only ones I have taken so far did not do them justice .... and I forgot to take some so I could post before and after

Still, suffice it to say I would highly recommend them - my wheels were not too bad but the last owner had managed to scuff all four in the 18 months he owned the car !

Cost was not cheap at

no Dan

they had problems with their shotblaster, so now it should be Monday

led to a nervous hour with a lot of expensive rubber visible in the back of the Omega, which I had to leave in a car park!

big boys too, which look even bigger off the rims

I went to BMW and bought new centre caps and M emblems (surprisingly cheap), so they should look the business

well, new actually

will try to post some pics as promised
