When does oil turn black?
Always wondered this, just been out to check my oil as did 1200 miles last weekend. After 3 months it still doesn't need any and its still clear
My Honda needed oil every month and it was always black so what am I doing wrong. Not redlining it enough ?

I think it's through getting burnt in extremities of the engine, then gets back into the main "body" of oil, contaminating it.
I've never had anything but clear oil in my S though and I certainly redline it a fair bit. Usually needs a top up once a month too.
Maybe it's just down to the physical layout of the engine making it more likely or not

the other possibility is that whoever sold it to you wanted to cover up as many traces of an engine rebuild as possible
the easiest way to do this is to flush the engine several times using special oil before refilling
an unmolested, original engine will usually contain darker oil because some older oil inevitably remains in every oil change
so I would be slightly concerned and definitely do some checking
or it could just be spunk, in which case you can relax
apart from concerns over your eyesight
