Default Winter Tyres

Have been lurking on camskill for a few weeks as they have Hankook winter tyres at a great price at the moment in the size i need for the wife's civic, but were out of stock for a long time (presumably as so cheap). Anyway, they were back in stock this morning, so just ordered a full set of 205/55/16 to see how we fare this winter.

We live pretty rural and have at least 2.5 miles in any direction before we get to a road which *might* be gritted. My wife is a school teacher also, so working from hime not ideal and the S is not exactly renowned for its snow carving capabilities.

Anyway, hope to get fitted for an all in price of under £300. If we have a winter like we did last year (thankfully we were in Gambia over xmas when it snowed...) then we should be well prepared for it.

Our of interest, who uses winter tyres? I think they will become much more 'the norm' over the next few years as the country grinds to a halt with every dusting of snow.

Looking forward to running rings around 4x4's and cross overs on summer rubber!

i'm on my first year of winter tyres, i hope we get some weather to test them out in. (not to much though - just enough to see if they are noticeably better than summers).

i'm running a pair of 205 Komoron snowpro 2 XL's on the rear.
S2000 is not really liking them with any sort of driving enthusiasm, but they were bought for a specific purpose

everyone who uses them swears by them. mine arent fitted yet as it's only just hitting the sort of temps where they're needed and has been dry (7C i think)

in snow they are awesome, in the dry they're squidgy but then its best to be a bit cautious this time of year, lots less grip about

£300 is good, the hankooks were reviewed in evo recently, cant recall how they did though

We have them on the Civ.

The temperature's been low enough some mornings to make a real difference; there's no warm-up time required.

They're Dunlop Winter Sports and actually are quite good in the dry if you like it on the wild side. I'm sure they're no squidgier than some unpleasant summer tyres.

The Hankooks did ok in EVO review, considering the price, £65 each compared to upward of £100 for the big 4 they are a much cheaper option. It will be interesting to see how they fare.

It is supposed to get a bit nippy next week so i hear so planning to get them fitted on the weekend.

That's fair enough.

The Dunlops were said to be a "very well-balanced* tyre" in the ADAC/other German tests, in which I have far more faith. Doubtless the EVO ones are merely one of those translated & syndicated.

*the implication being performance, etc, rather than distribution of their mass.

2nd year of using them on the S2000. For me it was the difference between reversing off our drive and then finding out I couldn't go anywhere, parking the S2000 up at the end of our road for 2 weeks and trying to work from home and actually getting into work.

I've been waiting for the temps to drop to put them on this year and it looks like they will be going on this weekend.

And this year I'll also be getting some for the wife's civic.

I've just bought a spare set of wheels for my panzer, will be ordering tyres shortly.

Given BMWs are renowned for their (not very) excellent winter usability, I figured it was a good idea.
