Get the proper BMW warranty, maintain it, and budget another £1500 a year to spend on the car (before standard running costs)

My one concern would be paying £20K for an E46

I'd think I'd want to be paying a little less
Thanks, these are the sort of running costs I had in mind, 60% would be more than acceptable

There's a chance that it could get moved on earlier, I'll probably want a new Caterham before long.

I'm really struggling to find anything under £20k without going for an odd colour or compromising on spec.

The only way I can see to do it is to get lucky with a private car that still has a BMW warranty but then what happens renewal time?

Got one.

It's an 06 CS, Interlagos blue, SMG, pretty much every option I'm aware of minus sunroof, 42k miles.

It's immaculate, way too nice for a peasant like me.

I can understand why people don't get on with the SMG but I love it. It's going to take time to master but that just heightens the appeal. The auto-blipping is so

I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone about the engine

I'm going to have spend some quality time with it before I can give the full Troy McQueef report but the steering is even quicker than I was expecting and makes the car feel much lighter than it is.

The only real bummer is the lack of cruise control which is lost because of the CS steering wheel but I think I'll cope.

I'm not ashamed to admit it was the first one I tried but I couldn't have hoped for better match, I even prefer the colour to black. It was just felt right.

Pick it up in a couple of weeks

Nicely done. Just as I'm getting rid of mine for a diesel burning hack.

It certainly befits Queef style reports about "a dab of oppo"

And 160mph comes up without any effort at all.

In Germany obviously.

I know, I remember.

My work here is done

Remember that it costs to track it. So don't do it too often.

It will be kept to a minimum, if it happens at all.

It's just too shiny

I don't think I can rib people about not taking their pride and joy on track anymore

Yeah, but you go on track with other things. If they're a one car person you can.

Besides, everyone's a hypocrite on the internet. Apart from me

Good work, Graham! No messing

Looks like you have bought somehting exactly like I would. A rare model in a good colour with low miles, which makes selling on very easy. There are a lot of M3's to choose from but a CS is a good one to have for those in the know!

Harmon Kardon and widescreen satnav?

I can tell it has Bluetooth. Make sure you get the BT code when you pick it up. It likely won't work properly with a modern phone, but they'll charge you £50 to get the code if you forget and ask for it much later

Nice car.

Got to admit I've been tempted by an E46 M3 before (It's got to be the M line for me though) - this 'want' was rekindled somewhat a week ago when i seen a nice silver one, the high running costs put me off though. The E90 is simply gorgeous.

Get those tailpipes cleaned .
