It's not the fastest thing on the planet, and definitely not the prettiest, but the performance figures and my crappy pictures don't really do it justice. It looks better in the flesh and really does go like stink, especially in the gearbox's sport mode.
It's like a big, comfy, slightly posher , grown-up Impreza. The engine is very smooth and torquey and it feels as quick as the S at motorway speeds, but that could be down to the delivery. It doesn't sound quite as good as you'd expect, it's not a lot different to a straight six until you get up to high revs. I'm curious as to what it would sound like with an aftermarket exhaust on it but it's not that sort of car and I certainly won't be putting one on.
It's an absolute piece of p*ss to drive quickly, typical Subaru, just point it where you want to go and put your foot down. I very much doubt I'll ever get near it's limits on the road, but if the Caterham happens to develop a problem on a track day it'd be rude not to try it.
I've only tried it with an empty trailer so far but have a feeling it's going to make a cracking tow car, I didn't feel like it was pulling anything at all
Oh, it's a tad thirsty, but the less said about that the better
