Depending on the lawyer / court it is perfectly normal for people to drive around on 12 or even more points.
12 points does not automatically mean a ban, it's just very likely.

There are so many ways to get caught speeding now that I cannot believe that luck comes into it any more.

I think if the lesson is:
"you are a soft target if you are a good citizen with money"
Then it has indeed been learned
Quite what the learning point with regard to motoring law is, in her particular circumstances, I'm less sure

Deserves the ban in my opinion.

If you do anywhere near a normal number of miles say between 12,000 and 20,000 miles you come across so many speed cameras, fixed and mobile that the chances of you getting caught speeding by one of them are very high so much so as to make luck a 'relatively' insignificant factor in keeping your licence free of points. Paying attention for cameras and traps is what keeps you from getting points, that may not make them a good driver though.

although I feel for her as I don't think she has done anything as bad as driving with no insurance, if you are on 9 points you don't drive around on your phone tbh - your asking for trouble if you ask me

It was your topic, asking our opinions and I gave mine. If that makes me not very bright then I'm sure I can go and cry myself to sleep.
I find your post quite a personal attack really, you don't know me, so what gives you the right to call me stupid.
I don't consider myself as not very bright. I'm a member of Mensa, I got all a's at a-level, I got a degree in chemistry, and turned down a place at oxford university in the process. I was the youngest fully qualified refer in wales when I was younger (this has now been beaten), and never failed to get any job I've been interviews for. So to be honest I wouldn't consider myself as not very bright.
I resent the fact you've said that to be honest. I'd never attack someone like that on a forum. To say something like that is out of order, to think it its fine. I wouldn't call or type something about you, but to think your arrogant and pompus would be fine. . . Oops.
