Z4 M coupe
i have started to get that little itch every-time i see a local Z4 M coupe, i have gone as far as price them up second hand and start reading the reviews, they tend to be mixed, too stiff, cant get the power down etc etc. Anybody have any first hand experience. what kind of servicing costs come with the M cars?
No, but there are 3 of them at work! and one owner has 'just' moved into my office so i could enquire for you if you want? - he's had it for a couple of years. A guy was telling me he was asking about my car once he told him it was supercharged, he might let me swap
.
I quite like the look of them TBH
, I've had a good looksie at it several times though i dont really think the interior is anything special.
What's wrong with your S? sure its not the same car and not as good in some aspects but as far as performance goes it will more than keep up.

I seriously looked at getting one, test drove a couple, also drove a 350Z (awful interior, it had a tape player!) and an MX5, but ended up going for the S instead, a rare moment of head winning over heart!
I wanted a sports car for everyday use and to do the odd trackday in. Granted the Z4M had a fair bit more poke and was a nice place sit (feels like your sat in the car rather than on the car as it can feel with the S), but when I looked into it the costs of running it would have been significantly more than the S. A bit more fuel, but servicing and consumable parts costs - tyres, discs and pads, engine things if anything goes pop etc. were a lot more, and they'd wear if doing track work.
So in the end I went with an S and do all the maintenance on it myself as it's a pretty simple machine to work on (and got a house and a mortgage...)

I had a Z4M until recently .... but the Roadster ..... and have sold it for something a lot slower (don't ask)
No fault of the Z4M though - superb engine ... very linear in delivery and predictable handling.
I know the coupe is a bit different but the roadster was firm and good in the suspension department. Seat were hard but superb ....
Fuel consumption was good at 23 mpg for what it is and insurance was not to dear for me.
Tyres are around 235 each. I went through a set of rears in 7K and I am gentle !
Servicing is ouch - Inspection 1 was going to be £800 + a brake fluid change taking it to £1K. Don't buy one if you are worried about servicing cost - but just remember you have 340bhp to play with.
Gearbox is awful. 1st to 2nd slow and 3rd to 2nd dreadful. I drove three and mine was the best of the ones I tried ... they all do it. If you like an S2000 box you will hate this one !
They look the dogs .... but try one first ! Everyone I know loved mine except me ....
They deserve track days - they are nicely quick and useable without being a beast ...
I have to be honest and say (having sold mine) that though far quicker than an S2000 I have had more fun with the two S2000's I have owned than I ever had in the Z4M. That is not to say the Z4M is bad - far from it - just to show how much fun the S2000 is without being as quick.

Murdered the Honda, one session in the wet was embarrasing lol.
We also looked at one a couple of years ago but at the time couldnt afford it.
Not a big fan of the dash arrangement either but engines are sublime.
Get over to m3torque.co.uk and ask around

The newer folder hard top 35is would be my choice.
And try and find one with iDrive...
Less insurance and far lower operating costs than the M motors.
And with more torque.
