Oh no! ......we have another " Progressive " aka/Tree-hugging Liberal who thinks higher gas prices will stop people from driving those demonic SUV's and some how " Save the Earth ".

I bet you think Government should tax gas more than $.42 a gallon since can spend your tax dollars better than you.

Sheeeeeez

my comment was based on the amount of stock i have in chevron
thanks for the assumption

i will try to put my masters in economics to good use.
a rise in gas prices will create a demand for more efficient automobiles(common sense)
as long as gas prices are set high enough to continue this demand, manufacturers will
have enough time for r&d and actual production. this is a cyclical act as i was saying.
when and if prices do go down, the demand for larger faster cars will go up, and the process starts all over again.

so, yes its pretty simple to see that higher gas prices would help the environment. i just think its a sad situation that being "pro-earth" is always considered liberal when it should be considered american.

as for the tax, that would slow down the economy too much and we'd have to find another country to go to war with to spur the economy. when kerrys president, he wont do that either because he wants to get re-elected.

I intentionally didn't post any political comments in this thread.

It just seems amazing to me that filling the S2000 whch I usually have to put something like 10.2 gallons in costs me over 21 dollars.

And yes it costs much more to fill up my wife's SUV which holds a lot more gas. To be fair, the 4Runner doesn't get that much worse gas mileage than my s2000. I think a lot that has to do with the way I drive it!

However, how much would it cost to fill up a Hummer H2 now that gets 8 miles per gallon?

GoldenEagle,

Your are right about the price of Premium. As gas prices rise, the difference between 87 and 93 Octane gets closer together.

I just looked up the info on the Hummer H2 because I have a friend that owned one and hated it because it said he got around 8 mpg when he drove around the city a lot.

It holds 32 gallons of gas and it is recommended to put 93 octane in it.

32.00 x 2.10 = $67.20 to fill up and a driving range of 256 miles. Just about the same as the S2000.

Wow, it would suck to own one of those right now

politics isnt really the reason for the high gas prices. the price of oil has gone up 15% in the last year, while the price of gas has gone up 40%. gasoline is a refining process. there is ample amounts of "waste" oils such as heating oils, and such...even diesel. its really the demand issue. gas companies are not going to keep refining oil for gasoline when they have to have millions of gallons of kerosene in silos. i havent heard anyone on the news say this. so, this is just my opinion.

as for the H2, holy cow. 93 octane...aahhhh

ive been getting about 27mpg in my s2k
