well first off welcome to the Apache program i'm gonna warn you about %50 of the people that become mechanic do it because they want to fly as warrant officers. It is a great way to learn the aircraft and really be ahead if you are a squared away mechanic and really learn your shit getting warrant could go pretty smoothly I know we only get two slots a year so it is very difficult and very competitive

aviation slots are coveted for sure its an amazing job and I love doing it. You wont be on the birds and launching them as much as I do but the yankees seem to always enjoy sitting in the shop and watching movies.

ArchAngel2K,
I don't know exactly what is going on with recruiting for the USCG right now, but I do know of several prior enlisted service members that are in the USCG. You shouldn't have to do any kind of basic training, but you will go through some kind of training that will prepare you for the change of service branches.

good luck man, i'm a 15g myself and loved it. stay motived with your goals of being a pilot. the army is always needing pilots, its alot of paperwork testing and some bs, but stay with it because the rewards are plenty worth it. i was going to do that myself but my eyes suck and i could never get on the surgery list in time. i miss being active army, it was one of the greatest times in my life. on a side note the reserves blow. i have been doing it for 2yrs now and cant stand it, stay active. 15r or 15y or for that matter anything 15 series is going to be the best job in the army. we always get treated good in aviation.
