Bulging S02
Hi Everyone!
I posted this question about my bulging S02 tire on the Tire forum, but I would also love feedback from you, as well, on why this may have happened or similar experiences.
Here is the link...I hope this works. If not, Airgate, can you assist in helping me link to another forum?
Thanks,
Kalan

Perry (Canucks2k) nailed the problem in your linked thread. This is tire separation plain and simple....occurring on your sidewall due to either a poor tech-mount job, or a hard hit to a pot hole. Pot hole is hard to believe given the amount of bulging occuring on nearly the entire circumference of the tire. But I guess its possible. Best one to answer *that* is you knowing if you have hit anything hard recently. By the way...if you *did*, and it managed to cause that much damage, I would suspect you will also need a 4-wheel alignment as well
.
If it was a tech's irresponsibility...then the dealer might well be accountable. Good luck
.
Sure isn't common for the S-02. But it *does* happen occasionally to tires...

PS. OT, but I'm still anxious for pics of that Formula of yours with JDM clears. And irony of ironies...last night I cleared CHIX RULE's headlights -- guess what -- she owns a Formula Red and went with JDM clears
. It is an awesome look for this car color

You diden't do it when you backed over Husker Hubby's lawn mower did you? Just kidding. Glad you found it in time and you diden't have a problem at high speed. I have seen you drive and I know you can run at high speed.
I'm not so sure I agree with others' diagnosis. This could well be a manufacturer's defect. Hitting a pothole that hard would have altered the alignment or even bent a rim. Low air pressure is possible, but I know you are tuned in to that sort of thing and its unlikely you would let it get *that* low.
I think you should persue a warranty claim and see where that gets you.
Good luck!

I don't know if anyone realizes just how stiff the sidewalls are on the OEM tires. It's very possible to run low pressure (remember the nail?) and not know it due to the extra stiff sidewalls. This tire separation looks like something that was caused by heat, most likely because of underinflation.
Pothole damage is usually a "bruise" and causes cut/broken cords in the fabric of the tire. This looks the rubber separated from the fabric, which is usually caused by high heat and extreme flexing. When the tire is underflated, it is flexed much more than normal and this in turn adds to the heat buildup.
I don't think that a warranty claim will get very far, due to the nail in the tread. I have changed many tires while I was working in a garage and this doesn't look like a warranty problem. I have seen many tires that had the rubber separated from the body of the tire, however.
