i agree dc2-2-ap1. not all are oiled.but the oil does help repell the water. thinking of relocating filter to a safer location using the tubes from the setup. the filter is down on the right corner of the bumper which does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling about it. do the bypass valves work well? anyone with experience with having one of those?
Yves it doesn't matter if the the filter have oil or not. If you get into a puddle there is no repellet that will save you. This is one of those situations that is better save than sorry. Maybe will never happen but it could happen tomorrow. It's not like you will loose 20 hp. You can modify it to make it shorter or get a FIPK. Here is a picture that I received from a friend this week that one year ago told me this will never happen to me becuase I'm very cautious...
ZOWIE! will be doing something about it this weekend. talk about short stroke. i don't need anymore repair bills. had enough of those already!
no worries redcelica. i've had an S now for 7 years and still learn new crap all the time. not a fan of dry filters.
in fact is there anyone out there who has a stock intake(box and snorkel) they would be willing to part with. give me a shout.

From my own experience when I had my POS civic with AEM CAI I came to a stop sign and didn't realize the small dip at the sign. It was full of water my filter was low enough to go swimming. So when I hit the gas to go it sucked water and locked the engine. Didn't think it was so bad. Changed oil and filter(flushing oil several times) then a week later going down I-26 the engine went BOOM
. So be careful Yves

I had a CAI on my 00 for 3 years as a daily driver.
never had any issues.
if you do drive through 8" of water in the S, you should expect problems anyway.
my 03 has a K&N type filter in the engine bay.
i do notice that my 03 gets what feels like heat soak more than my 00 did.
plus it rattles, which i hate.
