Default The Carolinas

In an effort to help fellow S2Kirs, I thought I would start this thread to get some ideas. It would be nice if everyone thought about this and chimed in to lend some perspective.

So, the question is, in a nutshell, What are the Carolinas? What are some of the things that are trademarks and remind you of our states?

The ideas need to be able to be represented graphically. We had a mini brainstorm session saturday night at Ron and Sheila's house. There were a lot of great ideas, but nothing anyone really seemed to agree on as a whole. So, think it over and help out if you can!
TIA

sports is a huge one, with all the large schools in the carolinas (both north AND south), football and basketball have GOT to be one thing I always think of when thinking of NC/SC.

As corny as it sounds, BBQ is quite a common thing that reminds me of the Carolinas.

The state fair, but that's not for both - just for NC really.

That's one problem we had, the iconography for the two states is different.

For instance, for South Carolina you have the palmetto tree that could be worked into a logo, but that's _only_ SC. We also talked about our mountain-to-the-sea geography, but didn't come up with anything that blew us away.

the whole mountain to sea thing i could picture, even though i'd not really go to sc for mountains (are there any good mountains in sc?)

perhaps the coast - both states have gorgoeous costal cities?

erm, i still say sports? lol, kidding... sort of.

or, could focus on architecture, nc and sc have some amazing arcitecture, if it's a photoshop thing perhaps do a mix of the both - also could work in the mountain/coast thing with that, ex: biltmore estate and charleston.

unfortuantely for some of the plans, the graphics have to be simple (i.e. for embroidery) so photoshop representions are not the ideal. However photoshop applications can be used somewhere im sure (banners, etc) as they are now.

As far as the sports thing goes...every state has sports. and also, would it be college, pro, HS, (like harding high here in CLT)...it would be too hard to choose one that competely represents the region (w/o all the rivalry as well)

Its a difficult proposition because of having 2 states.

the most obvious icons for NC to me are of course the Wright Brother's Flyer, and Baldhead Lighthouse, the Cardinal. For SC, the only think I ever see is the palmetto tree.

Maybe something using the flags? those are both simple designs...

the only thing I can think of we have in common is the "Carolina" Panthers. Not a great idea though
