When I got my speeding ticket 5 years ago, it was 115 at 65 and I paid a lawyer for it. He ended up got me on a "defected equipment" and I just have to go to a saturday class which was not too bad. and Paid 15 bucks + court cost. I was really lucky on that one!

First thing to ALWAYS do is call the clerk and ask if there is any way to reduce it over the phone. i have had 4 tickets significantly reduced this way (including my 41 over on the dragon). if that doesnt work, if you are under 20 yrs old, get a lawyer. for around $2-300, (mine was $350 for 27 over) they will completely take care of it. yours was 16 over, so you will probably get improper equipment. i would avoid the PJC, it could definitely come back to haunt you, and also the insurance company sees it anyway, trust me they do. IF, you do go the PJC route, make sure the ticket is first reduced to 9 over then you get a PJC, that way it won't bit you as hard.
a good lawyer in Raleigh is Jason Tuttle 919-828-4800. he took care of me last time.

Dave

P.S. i might see you in court if you do show up, my date for improper movement is the same date

That interesting. When I got my PJC I asked my Attorney whether the insurance company would know anything about it. He said no they are not allowed to penalize you for it. I mean that what its for. If you stay clean then it is erased from your record as if it never happened.

Anyway 2 and half years later my rates have not gone up. In fact they have gone down

I recommend you check with your insurance agent, and not just the the admin folks. Every agent and company is different.

I spoke with my local agent, SF, and they clearly stated that simply pleading guilty to speeding, even 1MPH over, was grounds enough the raise your rates in NC.

The kind folks at All State, said they would give a personal review of ones driving record/history and would waive a violation if it was considered a rare one time offense.

I recommend getting a lawyer. FWIW, I'd call one that has a proven track record here in Raleigh. Our kind members have listed a potential contact. I'd try it and would let them know you were referred by someone who was satisfied with their results (i.e. I know you can get me out of this mess. Therefore $x=NO ticket)

Note to Self: Has it been 4.5 years already? Time Warp or TARDIS Effect... Hmmm.
Can't be a TARDIS, cuz 4.5 years in an S2000 and I still don't have enough room plus my first one broke.
However, you know you love your S when you are willing to make 2 trips to the grocery store instead of taking the Passport!

I recently had a wreck in raleigh and was ticketed. My local lawyer refered me to Gregory Seibert. He was a pleasure to deal with and my cheapest lawyer yet! Got my ticket thrown out.
