Default Found probable cause

Well, yesterday I was going to spray some carb cleaner in my TB to clean the gunk out. Well, I stopped in my tracks when I noticed the intake tube that connects to the throttle body in front of the metal fastener is torn all across the top half and dirty hot air is seaping in thru that slit. I would have removed the tube but I am pretty sure it would rip off completely. I guess I am going to try and get a CAI now before I go any further. My guess is that the gunk on my plugs wasnt oil, but carbon buildup and gas mixed... Ill find out soon.

Wow... so your engine was pulling in unfiltered air from the engine bay?

Wow! That's unusual. It must have had a bind in it from being installed improperly.

You'll enjoy the CAI. Make sure you get the vaccuum gizmo installed in the right direction.

Man... thats crazy. Any idea what may have split it? Hope you didn't suck anything into the engine that could damage it.

Oh.. BTW....

I want to get a real AEM intake since I had issues with that knockoff version I purtchased before Xmas. But if Ive heard correctly the Bomz intake sells for $50 and it fits good without having to modify to make it work? If anyone knows where I can find an AEM for $50 let me know. Otherwise, im gonna have to seal that crack to hold me for awhile.

Other than fine dirt particles and hot air I doubt it pulled in anything signifigantly harmful, other than lots of dirt. I know there is ALOT of sludge on the otherside of the butterfly in the TB. Should I invest in more than one can of Combustion chamber cleaner? ALso, i noticed on the directions that if the car has an airpump that it should be disconnected. Doesnt our car have one, and should it... how do I disconnect?

It does have one.... but I cannot tell you how to disconnect. Its purpose is to assist in lighting the cat so that the S2000 meets ULEV standards.
