FS: 2004 Sebring S2000
So far I am enjoying the BMW. There are definitely some things I miss about the s2000, but overall I am happy with my new car. Here are some observations about the cars compared to each other so far:
Power - There's no question that the power in the 335i, especially with a tune, is immense. This is my first turbo car, and so I do miss the immediacy of the s2000 power. Day to day, however, it's nice to be able to punch the gas at 1500 rpm and actually go somewhere
Mashing the gas in 2nd or 3rd and 80+ comes up before you know it. I knew this would be the case, but you can't drive it as hard as a stock s2000 because 3rd gear runs all the way to 107 mph, so you can't push it for very long before letting off.
Transmission - It has taken me time to get used to the BMW transmission, but I've still missed the s2000 transmission since I sold it. The BMW feels rubbery and a little more vague, but it won't have the cold weather grinding feel that the s2000 had. It also tends to be easier to drive and smooth out mistakes better, likely due to a heavy flywheel and additional low down torque.
Sound - Probably one of the biggest things I miss about the S was blasting through the gears while going under an overpass. This car doesn't sound bad, but it also isn't very racy or inspiring.
Handling - So far, around town, I haven't found the 335i handling to be lacking in any way. The steering is heavier and provides more feedback which is nice. You can definitely feel the weight of the car, and turn-in doesn't seem as immediate. I haven't yet felt much understeer pushing back, although I haven't driven the car all that hard yet.
Utility/Comfort/Amenities - Obviously this is where the 335i blows away the s2000 and this was the main tradeoff, giving up some of the driving experience for creature comforts: awesome stereo, roomy interior, bluetooth, navigation, etc...
I haven't had the chance to take any good pictures yet, but here is one I snapped with my cell phone:
