It's not a radar detector. It's simply a database of well known speed traps that is accessible through your cell phone/ navigation device. With your iPhone it uses a triangulation of your cellular signal between towers to identify your location, possibly many times per second. It then identifies local speed traps based on those coordinates.

The weakness in the system is that it can't possibly account for random speed traps, or even just cops cruising around looking for speeders. It doesn't detect any radar, so it will not alert you when a cop is near. The only thing this system is really good for is alerting you to speed/red light cameras and well known, established speed traps. However, there is even a weakness in that sense. Since the system is dependent on users to input coordinates into the database, it is only as reliable as the users. Therefore, if someone has not yet alerted the system of a camera/speed trap in a certain location, it will have no info to send to your cell phone to warn you of the trouble ahead.

Give it a try, but don't rely on it. It is by no means a replacement for a radar detector or your eyes. If you're going to speed, use it as a supplement to a good radar detector and a keen sense of your surroundings.

But we all know that no one on S2Ki condones speeding or breaking the law in any way, shape or form, right?

See you in traffic court,
Mike

yeah, ive used it once or twice while driving and i dont believe its mainstream enough to be effective at all yet.

the downsides are:

of course, its not a radar detector, but even still, there are not nearly enough people using it to be even slightly effective, at least in charlotte.

you cant run the app in the backround (i.e. you cant do anything else on your phone while this prog is in use)

and, like s2krazy2 also said, it cant alert you of un-reported speed traps/LEO's on the go.

its a nice idea but wont be good unless a lot more people use it and report accurate info.
