Default Its gonna get interesting tonight!

I'm a Red Cross volunteer serving as our chapter's liaison to the county Emergency Operations Center and I've been advised to have my suitcase packed and be ready to go to the EOC at any time. Soon to be hurricane Alex is sitting out there gaining strength and the steering currents are somewhat flukey.

I don't know why the weather service thinks they need sophisticated satellites, radar and planes to "attempt" to forecast where this storm will go. Everyone knows that Wilmy has a big bull's eye on it. Jim Cantorie sure knows where they hit. He's been camping out at Wrightsville Beach for the past two days.

Here's hoping that Jim and I couldn't be more wrong!

WHIMP! J/K

I would'nt even consider leaving my humble abode unless winds were 150mph or more.

My cutoff is is Category 3, 120mph. Its the tornadic winds that give me the shivers.

I stayed during Fran and was glad I did. A tree on the house (GOD what a scary sound) and a tree on the garage with my baby inside made for some adrenalin-filled moments.

Fortunately, since I was in the house when the trees fell, I was able to minimize water damage. Still, I had to vacate for two weeks while the wood floors were being refinished. What a PITA!

We bailed for Fran though and headed for the Piedmont. Fran fizzled but the flooding kept us from returning for three days. And to make it worse, we were staying with the INLAWS!

I survived though, thanks to my exceptional survival skills.

Hell, I'm new to the area, bring on the Hurricanes. All we got back home were tornados, so a hurricane should be fun....at least in Raleigh.

We were spared! Somehow Wilmy didn't even get winds over 20mph but we had some great surf too.

Next in line......Bonnie!

I drove through a hurricane on my way from Wilson to Kinston once because I had to to get to my aunt's house in Kinston. It was very scary and I'll never do something like that again! This one doesn't seem too bad. She lives up here now but I still have her house there...I hope it is OK. They do get some serious flooding in that neighborhood during hurricanes.
