Default I've got the dreaded...

I woke up with it one morning. I remember seeing a post where a guy used padded foam material to quiet the beast but I can't find it now.

Can anybody help?

no idea where the thread is addressing this, but i just folded up some thick paper and stuffed it between the outer and inner sections of the latch (if you grab ther outer section and wiggle it, you'll see what i mean.) probably anything you can stuff in there would work fine

Yes, I used padded foam to quiet the rattle. Phil, if you feel the sides of the latch you should be able to make is slide around a little. That is what is rattling. Take a peice of the padding and, using a small screwdriver, force the padding between the thin metal side and the thicker metal side on each side of the latch... make sense? Take a look at it and you will see what I mean. That will get rid of it.... atleast for several years. Mine has come back within the past month so I need to do mine again. It takes all of 30 seconds.

Can't you latch them at the same time? Mine did it for a while. Put equal pressure on both of them and it stopped.

Yes but this is a different rattle. It isn't the actual top Knocking against the strikers its the little pieces of metal on each side of the latch that are moving laterally and making a ticking noise.

Try this TSB on Top Rattles

It shows how to stuff the double sided tape into the latch body
