Moving (back) to Raleigh
I'm presently in Charlotte, but my wife has accepted a job in RTP so we'll be moving to Raleigh sometime in August. I spent some time there in the early 2000's while at NC State, but that seems like ages ago at this point. We're lucky that my company has an office in Raleigh (near Knightdale) so I don't need change jobs but it's still going to be quite a process. We're looking to find a place to rent somewhere off 540 to split our commutes for the time being until our house in Charlotte sells and we can buy in Raleigh. If anyone has any recommendations for specific areas or properties I'm open to suggestions, especially if there's garage space available.
Having only been in the s2k community for a few months I haven't had a chance to meet too many of the Charlotte members, but hopefully once we get settled in I'll be able to get up with some of the Raleigh crew.
Cheers,
Matt

WELCOME! I am on the Pittsboro side of Jordan Lake off 64. There are a number of places around. We bought and only rented for a short time in Apex and didn't like apartment living! So really can't make recommendations on specific places.
I know Andy, it's not my first choice but it's a much better situation for the wife. I'll still get down in CLT fairly often and be at all the CCR autox events (if you ever come out to one again
). I'll definitely be down to see your swap when it's done.
Pinky, thanks for the welcome! We aren't looking forward to apartment living either and hoping to keep it to about 6 months or so. We'd prefer to find a house to rent but the prices are a bit high comparatively, and when paying both rent and mortgage some compromises have to be made.

We're looking at the northern side of the loop, preferably between Leesville and Falls of Neuse. The south side would be convenient for her but would be pretty rough for me just because there isn't a direct route to my work.

I'd rent around Brier Creek for now - close to RTP, where the worst traffic will be going/coming, and its an easy drive on 540 to Knightdale.
For houses, Bright Leaf up 70 is huge, has a ton of inventory, and is likewise easy to get to RTP from, plus you can take 98 to WF or just drive down 70 and hop on 540.
If you want to live in Raleigh vs Durham, there are tons of small neighborhoods off Creedmoor, Six Forks, Leesville, etc - but the farther east you are, the worse your wife's commute will be.
Good luck!

I lived in Auston Grove apartments before moving to Clayton. Nice neighborhood and about 3-4 miles from 540/Knightdale. Not sure if you really want to split the commute that much though, but it'd be close and the prices are affordable.
