Do it! Do it! Do it! Ron and I would love, love love to have you guys in Charlotte!

It would be a bit of an adjustment, but as 2 Charlotte natives, I can honestly say there are very few other places where I would voluntarily live. I'm sure Anna would have her choice of positions, depending on what she was wanting to do career-wise.

Charlotte is quickly becoming known as a "restaurant town", and with the addition of Johnson & Wales, she would have many options here.

Regarding the house, if you weren't looking to purchase/build new, you could find something in that price range in our very neighborhood. How cool would that be? We love it here, and we're only 10 minutes from Southpark. (Well...not counting during rush hour!) For new construction, there are plenty of opportunities if you're willing to drive a bit further. I know some great realtors personally, and can hook you up with someone you can trust.

Come on over! You'd love the S2K community here, you're closer to the Dragon, you'd have some awesome career opportunities, and you are still close enough for weekend trips to New Bern to visit family and friends.

I have a mental image of a caravan of s2000's -- each with one box in the passenger's seat.

I agree, though. Move to Charlotte!

I lived in Charlotte for 8 years...it's a great town, especially if you have a desire to raise a family.

I used to live in the southpark area (had an apartment and rent was pricey). It's one of the nicest areas in town but as others have mentioned it is expensive. However, there are some great place to buy and even build in the immediate Charlotte area including Matthews, Mint Hill, Union County, and Gaston County. It all depends on what you want. It sure is a lot more affordable than where I moved to...Charleston, SC!

The one thing I never liked about Charlotte is that it lacked history and culture, something I love about my new hometown. Of course, this doesn't matter to everyone. There are good jobs available in the queen city and as it continues to grow, only more opportunities will come up.

I wish you the best of luck Raul and hope to meet you sometime!

Another housing avenue to consider would be a pre-fab house. Now I know some of you will poo-poo this, but my Dad who was in the construction business for much of his life says that there is excellent quality in some of these. One of my neighbors is thinking of this avenue as well, he says the price/sq.ft. is about $68 for some that he has looked at.

Property taxes, as mentioned above, should be a strong factor to consider. My son opted to live in Huntersville rather than in Charlotte and is saving a fortune.

If you'd like to call him, let me know. He's real familiar with the area outside of Charlotte.

That is true. You can save by living outside of Mecklenburg county. We lived in Union Cty. and saved on taxes and insurance. However, some of our utilities were more, but overall we saved $.
