Moving to Charlotte
Hey crew,
I've been away from the board for about 6 months due to my mom's declinging health and then passing from cancer and now am shifing gears and moving from Greenville NC to Charlotte. I hope to see you all again at the next meet and will be in a prime location for a dragon run! I'll be up in corporate housing for 2 months so I can find a place to live so I wanted to ask a question to those of you in the area, what would be a good, safe, quiet place to live? I'm looking for something outside of town a little bit but close to 77/85. If you all see a sebring silver with a blue top then thats me.

And I live in the Ballantyne area. It's nice and quiet, just like you want. Very suburban.
I'm about a stones throw from Stonecrest. Are you looking for an apt., condo, townhome, or house. Because they're all available in this area.
Oh, and welcome to Charlotte.

Our sympathy on the loss of your mother. Losing a loved one to cancer is so very difficult.
Traffic should be your main concern. It can be minutes or hours depending on where you live. 485 pretty much connects you to either interstate fairly quickly.

Sorry to hear about your Mom.
Welcome to Charlotte. Traffic sucks during the rush hours. I would take into consideration where you work and what times you will be commuting before picking an area of town. There are lots of nice areas to live.

Ahh thanks for the tips and condolences. I'll be working off of 77 around exit 3, and was hoping to live in a place easy to get to work, yet be far enough to get some peace and quiet and a resonable price. Probably will grab up a apartment or townhouse the first year to give me some time to look but a townhouse or house for rent with a garage would be my first choice. The S has had to put up with that hot sun for 4 years and its time to pamper it.
I was there cruisin' through town on 77 in pre 8am rush hour traffic on Monday and it didn't seam all that bad. I was expecting Atlanta type traffic but it was on par with Raleigh. Was I just really lucky?
See ya all in a couple weeks

and is very close to where you'll be working at..
I live in Rock Hill, and a co-worker just moved here from the Rea Rd area and his commute time has gone from 45-90 min on 485 to 30-40 min on 77. Oh yeah, we work at 485 & South Tryon which is very close to exit 3 Arrowwood, where we worked before we relocated.
I also have a co-worker that lives uptown, and his commute is only 20-30 min.
Other co-workers that live out 485 downright hate the commute, but it's better than living in Huntersville.
I would suggest that you look in Rock Hill or Fort Mill or Lake Wylie areas(NC & SC, just drive down 49 (Tryon)toward the lake)) if you want quiet suburban life. They are close enough to all Charlotte has to offer, without the downside of big city life.
If you like big city life, then there are lots of places in Charlotte, but traffic will be your main concern. It seems the nicer areas are the hardest to get to.
It's good that you have corporate housing to give you a chance to check out all areas. If you want to meet up with me for lunch sometime give me a shout.

S2000driver77, So sorry to hear about your mom; its very hard to lose a loved one.
Congratulations on your move to Charlotte; wherever you decide to settle, it'll be nice to have you at some Charlotte meets. They're pretty much all MEE's (Meet, Eat & Eat), since there are so few drive opportunities around town, but we do have a good time.
Welcome!
