I live in Rock Hill, and a co-worker just moved here from the Rea Rd area and his commute time has gone from 45-90 min on 485 to 30-40 min on 77. Oh yeah, we work at 485 & South Tryon which is very close to exit 3 Arrowwood, where we worked before we relocated.

I also have a co-worker that lives uptown, and his commute is only 20-30 min.

Other co-workers that live out 485 downright hate the commute, but it's better than living in Huntersville.

I would suggest that you look in Rock Hill or Fort Mill or Lake Wylie areas(NC & SC, just drive down 49 (Tryon)toward the lake)) if you want quiet suburban life. They are close enough to all Charlotte has to offer, without the downside of big city life.

If you like big city life, then there are lots of places in Charlotte, but traffic will be your main concern. It seems the nicer areas are the hardest to get to.

It's good that you have corporate housing to give you a chance to check out all areas. If you want to meet up with me for lunch sometime give me a shout.
^Good info.

Nowhere near as bad as Atlanta. More like Raleigh. It is actually better with the 77 and 85 improvements. 485 East of 77 is terribly undersized for the explosive growth of the area.

I work off of Arrowood road and live in the University area. I work

i think 485 eastbound has the worst traffic in town. i wouldnt live in ballantyne unless i worked there...leaving work and then hitting a pile or traffic would be a bummer for me. i dont live in this area, but maybe west tyvola road(exit 5). it has a lot of apts/townhomes west of I-77 and is across the street from a huge park called rennaissance that i play vball and mtn at if you are into outdoor stuff. it'll be a perk being able to drive to work while not hopping onto I-77. thats just me though. ballantyne area would be a lot more fun. lots of hot moms...haha :]

i would second the earlier post about rock hill & fort mill. i lived in both before moving to cincinnati earlier this year - and since you work on the southside of charlotte - it could make a lot of sense.

if you are buying, SC has much cheaper property taxes & good schools in the RH/FM areas. real estate market seems to be pretty strong - or was last year - i sold my house myself in 2 days...LOL

oh, how i sometimes miss the carolinas...but i am enjoying cincy quite a bit too.

Move just across the boarder to SC, cheaper takes, free windshields, and no car inspections required!
