Default Muffler rattle?

When I drive my s2 I get this rattle in my exhuast at exactly 4 thousand rpm and that's the only time... Did an inspection underneath the car and found the rattle in side my muffler wtf. Is it ruined.. Maybe something is stuck inside and I can shake it out ..has Anyone else had this problem and how did u solve it??? Thanks in advance

Stock exhuast and it is the muffler I traced the sound from the headers all the way to the passenger side muffler. Something is rattling around inside it. I'm thinking maybe the o2 sensor tip broke off and traveled down to the muffler bc I have no cat just stright pipe, or a piece of the muffler is broke inside??? Is this possible???

Regardless of what's in there. Once it's inside due to the design of the stock muffler. You cannot shake it out. Either magnet fishing or cutting it open is your only hope. And the magnet would have to be almost 3 feet long to reach into the muffler itself.

I'd go to a really good welding shop have them cut a 3" in the region it's in( there are three chambers, front mid and rear) shake the piece out and TIG the hole shut. Best done by removing the whole cat back from the car.

I say this because, don't laugh. I dropped a 25$ carbide cutting bit inside mine.

Good luck

Probably the cat. It's common.

I had this for around a year early on in my ownership. Pieces of the shitty aftermarket exhaust was the issue. I had it corrected by having a welder cut into it and remove it- which I had done along with patching the 3 exhaust holes which caused leaks. In the end I just replaced it and sold it for cheap...which I then quickly learned was the reason for my loss of speed issue that stumped me for a bit.
