A friend of mine tunes 1800whp drag mustangs back to back with 500whp Hondas.

Tuning really isn't some dark art especially the wot area. WOT pull with conservative timing, get stable afr, advance timing until power stops being made, add fuel in spots where added timing caused a lean spot done

Doesn't sound like the tuner didn't know what he was doing just that he wasn't familiar with piggyback/crap tastic software. You are supposed to bring a running tunable car to the tuner with the kinks worked out, if he has to work the kinks out. And do the grunt work of searching for info why shouldn't he get paid?

He should have had it all set up and ready to run when you showed up if you told him what software you were using so he was a bit unprofessional there. And he should also be more familiar with how to run things in compatability mode on vista since most tuning software is freaking ancient especially previously mentioned craptastic piggybacks like greddy.

As far as the numbers it doesn't matter at all dynos can be screwed with as far as corrected numbers so easy. Get uncorrected numbers and look at the tq curve if its smooth you have a decent tune regardless of what numbers are next to the curve. They dyno is just a tuning tool nothing else.

I've tuned several local cars and it's amazing people expect me to trouble shoot their car for free. I try and help out if it's something simple but like the old saying goes time = $ I see nothing wrong that happened here.

dude... you arent telling me anything I dont know, I'm a professional tuner myself, and have been for more than 10 years. In fact I turned down the tuning job at nat speed before they even opened their doors.

there has been a good bit of turnover as far as tuner/mechanics go there so the work you got done in the past that was good or bad may not be the case now.

Likr I said this is my first experience with tuner and I will assume that if the tuner say they can tune the car with certain kind of management software/hardware, they should be able to bring the car in, hook it up, and start the dyno run. I've heard that Emanage is a bitch to tune but if I specifically asked them this, I was expect to get in and out of the shop in a couple hours. and you are right about the dyno number, it's not a major concern but it's just that the time it took to work out the kink sort make me think he might be rushing thing a bit to get the next customer inline.

on the flip side, since all the software is installed on my own computer, I will be able to access the emanage myself and tinkle it around. To me, the price I pay is worth for a little bit of knowledge I gain by working with him.

Anyway, if anyone here have similar setup as me (emanaged S2k) and would like to take it to them, I will still recommend them with the following note:

Make sure they have a working laptop that can interface with emanagement, or better yet bring your own that you've test it work.

Research more on the FI forum, or Google for every little step that you need to do, such as cutting wire, or making modification to the emanage, We were actually google and search S2ki during the tune. Lol. The shop did have pretty good WIFI internet connection.

Oh and don't set your hope up to a certain hp figure, don't believe the hype.

I actually called NS a few months ago when I was planning out my STR build and trying to decide between emanage ultimate and the cheaper apexi neo. Jordan at NS told me straight up that their current guys didn't have much experience with either platform, and that they were much more familiar with the standalone units like AEM. This surprised me a bit, but I respected his honesty towards me.

There is no denying that the level of quality at NS is high; I have seen countless threads of their customer builds that have just blown my mind. However, they all have been more of the "balls-out" builds that most of us can only dream of... 1,000 HP+ new Camaros, insane Corvette builds, that old Nissan that they brought back to life...

I regard them as one of the best shops in NC, if not in the southeast. However, for something like an emanage ultimate tune, I would go to someone else purely based on the honest feedback I received from them firsthand.

Personally, I took my STR built AP1 to Six Sigma in Concord, NC and was very pleased with the results.
