I would love to do a track day once I get more comfortable driving stick. I will probably sign up for the driving school that is being offered in October too.

I was thinking of getting Yokohama Y580's for a DD tire. I didn't find much about this particular model on here so I may do some searching and see what else is out there.

Another 49er checking in, but for grad school. I was partying at ECU when you guys were studying engineering at UNCC.

Depending on your driving habits, a Direzza ZII may suit you just fine. I'm an anomaly in that I've worn mine down in <2k miles but they saw SIGNIFICANT track usage and I even ran them during competition license school last week in the rain. I wouldn't hesitate to run them in the cold or wet, as I've run them in the rain at 40* or in the dry at 25*. I also ran a set of S-04's which were pretty solid as well, but slightly longer lifespan at the expense of grip. Either would be a great choice. No experience with the RS3's but hear they are a phenomenal tire for the price.

Oh yeah, almost forgot about Matt. Definitely get up with him whenever you are ready to try out an autox. He is still very active in the local autox events (whereas I have slacked off significantly).

I'm in Huntersville - if you need anything, let me know. I've basically taken the car apart and put it back together at this point....but if I don't know how to fix something I'll just text Andy!
Lol, and when I don't know it I'll just text Alex.

Welcome Nick. Good to have another true Charlotte native among us; I was born and raised in CLT as well. Where did you go to school for civil engineering at?

Is your new S2000 going to be your daily driver? If not (or even if so) look into your options for new tires. The extreme performance summer category has several excellent choices for our cars like the Dunlop ZII (and Star Spec version), Hankook RS3 V2, BFG Rival, and so-forth. They aren't the best for cold/wet weather, but if your S is just going to be your weekend or sunny day car of choice then buying the best tires available will let you get the most out of this car.

The Dunlops are great tires for sure. All of those are great, but the Dunlops tend to be a tad better in "cooler" or wet weather than the RS3 or Rivals in my experience. However, my experience was autocrossing on the previous versions of all of them.

I put "cooler" in quotes because where I am, it gets -15 in the winter The tires listed are not only not good below freezing, but downright dangerous in some cases and are extremely useless in snow. Plus, extreme performance summer tires that are allowed to freeze for a while are not as good once thawed as they were before freezing.

Where you are located though, and if you have another daily driver, then you dont have to worry. At the end of the summer I put my wheels with the sticky summer tires in the basement and put on the stock rims with all seasons to sit on during the winter.

Congrats on the new ride! I picked up my 01 last summer and have not had one regret. They are a great car to own and drive.

welcome Nick! Car looks great and 9000 rpms can sure be a blast! I would having the retainers inspected at a minimum. A lot of people swap one side (intake I believe) out with AP2 retainers, but unless you're just really planning on beating on the car or doing a lot of track days with it I would just inspect them to make sure they're not cracked.

Good tires (Extreme performance category at TireRack) are the hallmark of an s2000 and really are the best mod you could ever do other than getting some track experience under your belt. BTW, there's still one day left to register for the Dragon if you would like to see 100+ S2000s in one place and get to come hang out with a bunch of cool folks who love twisty roads

Are they retainers easy to inspect? Is it as simple as pulling the valve cover offer and bam, they are right there?

I do plan on tracking it down the road, this is my first stick shift so I need to practice a bit more before hand.

As for tires I have decided to go with Bridgestone RE970AS's because this will be my DD. When I decide to track her I will throw get summers and have two sets.

Thanks for the welcome, I will be out at Cars and Coffee in Charlotte this Saturday (I'm pretty sure they are having one). Is anyone else going?
