Lightbulb Pray for Liz

So....... how do I do this......

This afternoon I picked up my new rims that I had mounted brand new tires on in preperation for DBR 6. I took them home, and decided to add the decals to my calipers, clear them, then mount my new tires on so that I could cycle them and get some wear on them to prevent exactly what happened. Actually my plan was to come to Charlotte saturday and bring Sheila her S02 I had borrowed and help Dre with his mirrors. I figured the trip would wear off the new on the tires.

After several hours of work, I was proud of what I had accomplished. Being 9pm, I decided it was time to get some food so I drove about 2 miles down the street to McDonald's to grab a burger and fries. I came back home, ate, took a moment... then went another 2 miles to fill up at the Shell station. Because the store I went to was out of my cigs (yes i am still quiting, this is the first pack in two weeks I have bought.. I have been 1- a daying it) I went to another station a mile or two away.

The street that gets me to my house from this store is conveniantly a nice little road, a few twists but nothing that you can actually get up speed on. It also borders Jeffrey's Park.... a nature and wildlife preserve thats in the middle of town. On the other side sits some of the most expensive houses in town.

I am going somewhere between 30 and 40.... posted speed limit is 30mph. I come around a curve to the left which is on a hill and immediatly goes right. As I crest the hill, turning to the left and see a opossum/racoon/evil devil that I tried to save that had walked out of the swamp (which was to my immediate right) in my lane. I jerked left into the other side of the road: I think I missed it as I saw no damage on that side.. then arced back to my lane. this is when the rear broke loose. I tried to lift and correct but the angle was too far gone for me to correct it.

I spun 180 degrees and slammed into a tree which stopped me from falling about 8 feet down into the swamp. I moved the car out to the side of the road where a small dirt pull-of was for access to the park and parked, realizing that I had broken the control arm. I didnt have my phone on me and it was pretty dark and quiet. I had to hike a mile or so to my house to get some help. When a friend and I rode back through the location to my car, I noticed water running into the street and down the side of the road that I lost traction on, coming from a sprinkler system at the house at the top of hill. Contributing factor?.. I dunno.

I reset my odo at the gas station. Before the car went onto the truck I checked it....3.7 miles.

I called the cops to do a report. The cop was very cool, wrote me no ticket and put me at the speed limit at the time of the accident.

Thing I know for sure at this moment:

It looks worse than it is..

the fender is gone
sidemarker
control arm and suspension components
lip will need a repaint

I was lucky. The tree I hit hit the very front of my front tire, snapped the suspention and went into the empty space infront of the tire as I slid sideways into it. I was able to drive away once the car had stopped as i said before but only for a moment. I can see no structural damage at all; hell, even the headlight as intact.... albeit a little scratched and out of place.

Here are the pics I took with my phone at the scene.:

Well, I think that was a maybe....

Those tires had 7 - 9 miles on them and weren't ready for a move like I pulled eigther.

But thinking back I do remember thinking as soon as the rear broke how odd it was.

I dunno. I just miss my car right now.

Oh man, that sucks....so sorry bro. I always say better to hit whatever you are trying to avoid, option B is your life in danger rather than theirs. Glad you are ok though, car parts can be replaced. Now you can get some aftermarket goodies. Youll be back on the road in no time. If there is anything I can do for you, just let me know.

Still my favorite GPW on the board, dented and all.

I like the whells too.

Sorry this happened to you. There have been too many stories of guys swerving to miss squirrels, rabbits, etc. only to loose it.

I have animal parts all over the front of my car.

I'm really sorry to read about your car!

I'm glad you're okay, Mulder.

If the damage looks worse than it is, you should be back in your car soon enough.
