So OEM filter is the win hands down. On the oil why would one change from Mobile 1 Syn to Royal Purple if there is no problem with Mobile 1? Royal Purple is very expensive BTW for $33 you can pickup Royal Purple (5quarts) + K&N filter at Orielys.

The HAMP filter is designed by Honda and made by a performance company under contract from Honda. It is actually a higher pressure filter that the PCX filter.

I changed to Royal Purple on the advice of club members who are much more knowledgeable about cars than I am, and whose advice I trust. They have yet to lead me wrong. Also, when it comes to taking care of my cars, cost is not a factor for me.

If you're changing your oil every 4k mi with synthetic oil, it doesn't really matter what filter you use. At 4k mi intervals, I wouldn't even change the filter at every change, if you're using oem.

Royal purple is overpriced. I run valvoline synthetic and burn a lot less of it than mobil1. I run my oil out past 6k and it still has lots of life in it.

What would you recommend for oil, and rotation?

just bought a PCX and they are made in usa now. im down. i held all the filters in my hand and the OEM is stronger than the mobil 1, k&n and royal purple (they all were identical ) hope everyone is using OEM and not a flimsy pure one, that thing felt like an empty beer can.... speaking of which .....

Its been a year since I originally started this thread and I have come across many great websites.

I purchased a 6 pack of PCX filters from:
http://www.handa-accessories.com/s2000-04maint.html

It comes out to about $9 each shipped to my house.

I use Purolator One for my accord, and civic dx.

I also changed from Mobile one to Castrol Syntec only because I was eating up Mobile 1 much faster. Many s2000 owners have complained that our car eats mobile 1. Now that I have castrol syntec I eat much less oil even when in VTEC, and my catch can level has not moved at all.

I believe purolator is also made in the USA which is another plus.

This is a year later, but...

I change my oil every 7.5k mi or 12 months, and change the filter at that interval as well. I had a UOA done a while back and it was fine at this OCI, plus everything I've read on the boards over the years backs up the longer OCI, and this is using conventional oil. If you are using synthetic, your ranges are longer than conventional, so 4k mi is just too soon imo, but everyone has their comfort zone.

when i bought my car, it had 66k on the meter. i used mob1 for quite a while before noticing alot of oil use or what some seem to forget(ventingoverboard) i switch to castrol high mileage and blow by and usage decreased. as for the filter, i've been using frams since i've owned the car with no problems with 189k on the meter now. believe it or not, you loose a few ponies swiching to conventional oil. oh , the fram p/n for an s is ph3593 i believe. so using a different size filter i wouldn't recommend. not saying what i say is the gospel, just what i've experienced. good luck with your decision.
