For real though, most seem to get away with running a summer style tire year around.

Welcome to Clemson. Most summer tires would work year round here in upstate South Carolina. Just keep in mind that when it is cold outside, the tires will have much less grip. Remember to slow it down on those days and you'll be fine.
I'm a student at Clemson and we do have a Sports Car Club that is an organization of CU. However, a bunch of us tend to have a weekly meet (5-10) cars once a week, but most of the people/cars aren't members of the "club". But that's another story. Anyways, We usually just go somewhere that has some sort of specials for the night. (i.e. all you can eat wings and the sort)
PM if you want for more details and I'll introduce you to everyone. There's all sorts of cars, not just S2000's. We're outnumbered by 350Z's but no suprise there
