Default Quit/ got fired from job

Ok, so most of yall have read the story about that battle axe wielding blonde who I just recently used to work with. Well, my boss told me I would get a bonus for moving his website from one domain to another which I did. Well that changed... the blonde added in that i NEEDED to teach her how to make changes to the website. When she asked me, I flat out told her "NO... I will not teach you any my trade secrets, unless you pay me what I paid to go to college to learn you arent learning anything from me." Well, I got fired for that ... my supposed attitude and insubordination . I already took the offer from one job before all this took place and I have maybe 4-5 interviews this week and atleast 20 places who want to see my resume and Im not even done with half the list in Gboro and I still have Winston-Salem to knock around too. Needless to say, im not going to be struggling. Now, I deleted the website from that asshole so he couldnt use it but I guess the host already had it backed up because its back up now and I cant get back in to take it down. They are more or less stealing it from someone that built it for the asshole and he didnt pay him either. Is there anyway I can get the payment from this jerk, I doubt it but never hurts to know? I do know Im going to send an email to the original builder letting him know of the situation too.

Its def all good. That company was a temporary thing for me from the get go. Atleast it got my feet off the ground there and it gave me a chance to look for other places to work at. I called the original creator of the website and let him know (under a condition of anonymity) that I didnt think they had intentions on paying him for his services. WHat I had to tell him only confirmed his suspicions and he told me I was a good man and thanked me for the info.

Dolemike,

Being in the same business I know exactly how you feel. I'm going to assume you were hired to work at this company as a web developer and not as freelance?

If you were hired to be an in-house designer or maintain and manage the site, unfortunatly I there is not much you can do. I dont understand why this lady would want access to the site to make changes if you were hired to do just that. Unfortunatly, we come across similar problems with clients at the company I work for. Granted we are an interactive firm that specializes in websites, we also have our own rackspace and host all of our sites. We constantly have clients either asking for files or access to the site which we NEVER do. If a client decides to leave us and use a different firm or host the site elsewhere, we happily give them the site files minus any tools we have built for them. We protect our code and knowledge as should any developer. When asked by a client for access to the the site, we usually offer to build content management tools for them and in the very rare case, we have set clients up with a program called Contribute.

Doing alot of Freelance work myself, I also have come across this problem. I have a rackspace with a company and host all of my clients on this server. I have never given access to the server and per agreement, if changes are needed, I charge an hourly rate and or a flat monthy fee. Again, if they decide to leave or change host, I give them the files minus any tools I have built.
This also reminds me, we never give our raw flash files away either.

All in all, there is not much you can do other than just take it as a loss and learn from this mistake. I'm having some problems right now with a client who I have a trade out deal with and I'm trying to work it out. Fortunatly for me, the problem is they havent fullfilled their part of the deal and if no payment is made, I can temporarily take down their site. It's amazing to see how fast somebody will pay a late bill or finally return your phone call when their website and or email goes down.

Let me know if I can help anymore, but just thought I would give you my 2 cents! Good luck with the job search!

I agree with bruno. Nothing good comes out of working for bad people. You have known they were bad for a long time now, it seems, so your problems were probably compounding daily. You are an intelligent man for creating the transition for yourself before they did it for you.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have several things going on, its just the matter of figuring out where to start first. The unfortunate thing is that the job offer I took isnt putting me in hardly any better of a financial position other than knowing ill get a paycheck at the end of the week. Hopefully alot of these other jobs im sniffing out will come thru soon.
