Default Rear diff blew today

Today I was on 40 about to make an exit and downshifted to change lanes to make the exit and this very loud banging started, and a cloud of smoke appars behind my car. Being as it also stops pulling I pull over to the side of the road, get out and the rear of my car is covered with oil, as smoke is coming from the oil on the exhaust, so I look under the car and sure enough, from the diff back there is oil everywhere. So I get a rollback to come tow it up to Auto Park Honda.

sorry to hear about that.........
please post back what was damaged and the reply of the dealer.....
btw.... how many miles do u have?
also, i guess u can take this opportunity to replace the differential with comptech housing, 4.44 or 4.57 gears with a better diff unit..
hope for the best i guess

You're lucky it happened when it did. Imagine if you were trying to accelerate into merging traffic when it happened.

Glad you're OK. Good luck with your baby!

Keep us posted.

Geez, what could have caused this. I've never seen you abuse your car on our drives. I hope you get that fixed. I'm willing to chip in with *REPAIR* money by purchasing your hardtop.

Good luck, I concur on the no abuse thing. Blow-out at 26K????

Hey, G.....just a question. Throughout those 26K miles, did you do a differential fluid change? If so, what brand of fluid were you running?
