Default Route to Asheville

My wife and I are heading to the Biltmore this weekend to celebrate our 1st anniversary. We will be leaving from Vic Bailey Honda in Spartanburg on Saturday morning, and I am hoping some of you would suggest some engaging routes to take along the way.

I see a lot of great looking roads on the map, but I am sure you all have some personal favorites.

Thanks.

G.

Glenn!

Not sure how long you plan to make the trip, but I mapped this out on MapPoint and it says it'd be a 118 mile trip that'd take 2.5 hours. It would definitely be a fun ride! Basically, find your way into Greenville anyway you'd like and take 276 all the way to the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Take the parkway up to Asheville... Just beware, the parkway is not a place to play. Law enforcement is pretty tough from what I hear...

Have fun with whatever route you decide!

HW 25 isn't too bad. Nor is 276. The parkway is nice if you just want to cruise and get stuck behind old people.

When i drove our delivery truck to Greenville one day, on the way back I came through Ashville and went up 26 (I think) to get to 40. For a 4 lane interstate it was beautiful, traffic free, and a quick route. Takes you right into Ashville. You'll enjoy Biltmore, my girlfriend and I have year round passes to there (its only $10 to upgrade your ticket to a pass) and so far have went 3 times. It should be nice up there this weekend. Its also worth the money to get the audio tour and the behind the scenes tour is pretty neat.

Thanks for the inside tips. We will spend most of Saturday on the road, so we will have plenty of time to explore and cover plenty of miles. I bought a state atlas book to help me find my way to civilization if I get lost. Gotta get batteries for the GPS...

Well, if you've got all day, you might as well just ride up to the dragon. It's not too far from Asheville, I don't think... About 2 hours maybe? You won't find a better road anywhere around here!

Y'all have fun, and congrats on your first anniversary!

If you take 25 you might see me! That's how I get to Asheville from Greenville and we're planning a run into the mountains this weekend.

Have fun!

if anyone wants to run 276 up to brevard this weekend, just give me a shout. I'll probably run it Sunday if nobody chimes in.

It couldn't have worked out better if I wanted it to! We took highway 11 to 276 and then the parkway to Asheville. Literally, we only passed about 6 cars on the entire route, and four of them pulled over to let me pass, which I totally did not expect. I was not flashing or riding their bumpers, and they just did it selflessly. That never happens in the North Georgia mountains! I could NOT find the limits of this car, the balance was superb, and the twitchiness goes away when the car is driven with purpose. It was a great drive. There are probably some more challenging roads up there, but the fact that we got to stop and see some falls along the way made it perfect.
