If I get all of my oils changed tomorrow, I may join in on this (to keep with the tradition I started last month of doing one of these drives the week before an autocross)

When it gets a little warmer, that would be a good drive to combine with some over night camping around Price Park near Boone on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I think it's about $12 a night and some campsites have electricity.

I know of one that is less than a mile from shady valley and has a few cabins along with electricity

I like that idea

I am too far away for a one-day trip, so some cheap accomodations, maybe a campfire, and a nice weekend sounds like just the ticket (no not THAT kind of ticket)

It's a little to far to do in one day for me also, and I like camping and I'm cheap, so it all works out. I love Boone, but the motels about double the normal weekday rate for Sat. night.

I've been hiking on Roan Mt. near Shady Valley. They have some cabins I believe, but I don't know how far in advance you have to reserve them. Here's some more info for those interested in cabins:

I just got off the phone with the country store and they told me it did not snow last night and the roads are dry and clean...no debris or salt!!
We are 100 percent going to shady valley tomorrow. We will leave the village store (shell station) on the corner of hwy68 and hwy150 in Oak ridge at 9am. Trying to get a list together of everyone going so no one gets left behing...if you are running late call me at 336-420-2803 (chad):
