South Carolina Insurance Rates on S2000
I am hoping to purchase a 2004 S2000 in the next several months as a second car. It will need to be a second car as an S alone will not suit all of my needs.
At this point the issue that keeps me from purchasing the car is the additional taxes and insurance. It's not that I can't afford the car when considering these expenses, it's the matter of principle that I can only drive one car at a time. BUT, (before anyone flames me by saying "that's life, get over it") the bigger issue for me is I'm trying to figure out why my insurance is so high (or to figure out if it's not I just feel like it is).
I currently have a 98 Civic coupe with full coverage and reasonable deductibles. I have no violations against my record, but I did have an accident deemed my fault which paid out only for property damage almost three years ago. At this point I'm paying almost $1600/year with State Farm.
To add an S2000, even as a secondary (recreational) vehicle, I'd be paying an additional $1400/year. I did not inquire about how much the S would be as an only car, but I'm confident in saying it wouldn't be much less than insurance on both cars combined.
What I'm interested in is hearing about what other people in SC pay. Please post an estimate of you annual premium, your age, company, coverages, and any other related info such as violations/accidents/additional policies. I'm interested in comparing with other people in the area to see if I'm getting screwed, wrong numbers, or if I'm just not in a good age bracket yet.
Thanks!

$492 for taxes?!
Did they jump way down or have yours always been cheaper up there in Greenville? My taxes were like $1060 last year when I bought the S!
As for me, I'm 22, I've got full coverage with a $500 deductible and no accidents but 2 speeding tickets. I'm paying just under $1,200 every six months with State Farm.

Thanks everyone for the information. Makes me feel a little better...
Brian_28152,
I'd be interested in what your covereages are as I am also with State Farm and I'm paying more than that for a 98 Civic.
Oh yeah, and Richland county is BS with property taxes as well. Last year I called about an'03 and was quoted over $1000.
If anyone esle has any information, please add. In the mean time, I'm going to continue to pound numbers.

I just paid my insurance bill thru State Farm today. It is $526 every 6 months with full coverage. Now, what is shocking is that Highlander's property tax on the car is a lot lower than mine! Mine is $698 and is a 2001 while his is a 2002. I knew that Greenville is since they never know what the FVCK they are doing. I remember 2 years ago, I got my property tax for the 1971 Cuda and it was $390. It was a very obvious error. But it took nearly 2 months to get that straighten out with the tax office at Univeristy ridge. When, it was all over, it was $29.
