Default test drive or ride?

Hello Carolina S2K owners,

I am currently a proud owner of a '97 Miata turbo and a '95 Civic DX beater, but have been thinking about downsizing to one car and feel that the Miata won't be reliable enough in its current state. I've already blown one motor up after 100k miles (70k of those miles being F/I), and though it wasn't all that hard to swap motors, I cannot afford to have my only car down for a week or two. So I've been looking around at other cars and have decided that the S2K would be the best fit for me. I still want the top-down pleasure that a convertible gives me, must handle decently, and be in my price range. The S2K won't be as fast as my Miata, but I'm pretty sure it will be fast enough to satisfy me. I'm also an avid autox'er (I'm the red Miata running in SM2/SSM at the CCR events), enjoy the occasional trip to the drag strip and just now getting into track days, so the car must hold up to the abuse I can dish out. Any problems you all have had autoxing or tracking your cars? I'll keep the car relatively stock (run in BS, or AS if the SCCA change their minds on classing) to keep reliability up and maintenance down. The most likely modifications will be an exhaust, some new wheels for the street (stock wheels for race tires), and maybe a front sway bar. I'm looking into either a '00 or '01 with the lowest mileage I can afford. I wish I could spring for an '02 with the glass window but I just don't think I can afford it right now.

So basically what I'm asking is if there are any S2K owners in the Charlotte area who would be willing to meet up with me (and a few friends who are also interested in purchasing an S2K) sometime in the near future for some test driving/riding. I would be more than happy to bring out my turbo Miata for some driving and/or riding as well. I was thinking about meeting up down at P1 Auto just south of Charlotte on a weekend day at a date/time that is convenient. I'll be at the CCR Kershaw event on August 7-8th, but any other weekend should work. Anyone interested? Thanks!

Mike

I will be at the CCR event on the 7-8th as well. You are welcome to take mine for a test drive -- even a run or two if you want. I'll be #40 BS. My car will more than likely be up for sale this fall. We should talk!

That'll work! I'll be in SM2 73/173, red Miata w/ black wheels. I appreciate the offer to test drive your car! And I also extend the offer to take my car out for a run or two , as long as my co-driver doesn't mind (he supplied the tires ), but I don't think he'll care.

BTW, you going to run the Solo Trials on Sunday as well? Just need to get an SA rated helmet and maybe some 3" harnesses...

I didn't know they changed it from 2 solo II events to a solo II and a solo trial. I have no rollbar, so I'm not solo-trial legal. Looks like Saturday-only for me...

Nah... an '05!

111R ... but it has a TOYOTA engine!!!

That is cool dude. One of the S ownere here switched to the 111R a couple of months ago. Very sweet thing for the track. Also beats the S by 1 -2 secs on the quarter mile I am told.

Ah, good choice. I remember talking to you about this at the dragon earlier this year. I love the Elise, that is one hell of a car. Congratulations.
