tire and alignment issues
When I first bought my ap2(two years ago with about 23k miles), It came with aftermarket rims called ti5 and the tires falken ziex ze-912. The fronts 18 x 7.5 42degree offset with 215 40zr 18 and the rears 18 x 8.5 40degree offset with 235 40zr 18. Upon buying the car the right rear tire was worn down considerably more than any of the others. I didnt really think much of it and just replaced the tire. Last November about 7k miles later, the left rear was in need of replacing, so again as a short term fix just replaced that tire. Now exactly 10k miles later the very same right rear tire is worn down as well as a narrow wear patch on the inside of the two fronts. I have been on maybe 5 semi aggressive trips in two years and other than that no aggressive driving. The car isnt a DD but gets driven usually 3 or 4 days a week and never in the winter. I havent had an alignment done on the car since I have owned it. Now that all of this has happened I realized I should have gotten that done before hand as there is clearly an alignment issue. So now at the position that I am in, I am replacing all four tires and am reconsidering tire sizes, brand, and possibly even going to a non staggered setup. The car is stock suspension, ride height etc. Im not sure on alignment numbers currently but any recommendations for alignment, tires, sizes or anything would be highly recommended. I just have no clear idea on what to do at this point so any and all opinions are sure to help!
A stock setup car needs a stock alignment. Any shop with a decent machine and operator can get the car driving strait and wearing the tires evenly. I personally like a nonstaggered setup as it gives much more front grip and tires last longer and can be rotated. Just head to your local tire and alignment shop and have them put some new shoes on and line it up, no big deal. These cars need to be aligned fairly often anyway. Our roads are shit, and it doesn't take many big bumps or potholes to throw them out of alignment. I do mine every 6 months or so and it always needs adjustment.
well what tires do you guys recomend. I see people with star specs but im looking for a slight less performance tire and more grip somewhere in the 150 range. And do you think those size tires are optimal for the setup I have? I just think there should be bigger than a 235 on back and maybe bigger than 215 on front but i dont want any rubbing issues obviously.
