I'm still doubting that there's a governed limit on the S... Gear-wise, it's only possible for the car to go 166, so why govern the car at 150 or 155... With this anemic little 4-cylinder, I don't think there's much worry of anyone actually reaching the 160 area unless they put a lot of work into it... and at that point, they're probably smart enough to change the ECU! The only reason I could think of would be for insurance purposes, but I think it's pretty clear to the insurance companies that this is a sports car...

Just my $.02...

Gamecock,

Why do they computer control maximum speeds on any cars? Almost all Mercedes imported in the U.S. our governed at 150.

I don't know for sure but I have read the S2000 is limited to 150. It doesn't sound like it is true based on the posts of people.

I don't want to cause a debate. Like I said before, I'll never try for 150 anyway because I can't afford the ticket and jail time that would go along with that feat... I'm just thinking that since our car really has very little chance of doing more than 150, why bother limiting it to that... On the other hand, I know a lot of trucks that are limited at or near 100. They've got massive V8's that could certainly break 100, but to keep them safe, they're computer limited...

The trucks have massive V8s but they also have a ton of weight. I don't care about a massive V8 with 350 + HP if the truck weighs 4500lbs. It is hp to weight ratio which is important.

I did my 138 on the outer banks myself on Ocracoke Island right after the Highway Patrol got on the ferry. I went down the road a couple of miles and came back full speed knowing there was no cops and no people as there were no ferries due for 20 minutes.

If I knew for sure I had a safe straight road with 0 chance of a cop, I would probably try for maximum speed just to find out but it probably isn't going to happen anytime soon!

I'm guessing thatin your speed / gear post above, the first speed for each gear is the lowest speed you will be in VTEC. Right?

Care to share your calculations? I don't have a clue what the formulas consist of.

I did that over 2 years ago and I forget how I calculated it. I remember that I had to do some research on some car boards and other web sites and figured it out.

The VTEC is based on 6k RPMs being the VTEC point.

PS: One other thing to keep in mind, I believe the rev limiter cuts you off at around 9300 RPMS so technically you can a little faster in each gear at least in theory.

Here's a link to the original thread in case you missed it. Pretty entertaining story as written by Airgate. Just wanted to give you the heads up about the local cops there just in case. I hope you never have to deal with them. Or any cops after you have been doing this or this, or this or especially this j/k
