Default Waiting List Too Long for Your Atom?

The same ethos employed by the Ariel Atom is being channeled by GTM, a small car producer based in the UK, whose previous hits include the Spyder and Libra.

The GTM 40TR is a track day weapon in the same vein as the Atom, utilizing the potent combination of a bare frame, a couple of seats and the 220 HP engine pulled from the Civic Type-R.

The lucky pilots of the 40TR will be able to experience a 0-60 sprint in less than four seconds, along with a top speed in excess of 150 MPH. All that at the bargain basement price of about

Very nice, Ron! Think what new hairstyles you can come up with in that open air cockpit! May have to double up on that mouse stock.

In all seriousness, I thought the Atom was an AWD electric car? Or am I thinking of a different car?

Nope, Atom is RWD, powered by an asortment of motors depending how much you want to spend. The grandaddy is a supercharged Civic Type-R engine I believe. Mmmm. . .300hp in a car that weighs nothing.

That wasn't it then. The car I was thinking of is based on the Elise body.

Probably thinking of the Tesla Roadster. Tesla claims 0-60 in about 4 seconds, top speed over 130mph, and 250 miles on a charge, though I would guess not if your doing a bunch of 0-60 tests and going over 130mph.

There is also an electric car based off the Atom. Its called the Wrightspeed X1 (still a prototype at this point).

This one is impressive. On its first test day, it beat a Ferrari 360 and a Porsche Carrera GT in the 1/4 mile. 0-60 in 3 seconds, 0-100 in under 7 seconds!
