There was a 3rd gen RX-7 that sideswiped a traffic sign and trashed the whole passenger's side of the car. Crumpled the door, broke the window. A 2nd gen RX-7 had a little off-road excursion a few miles down the road. And there's a black s2k in need of a front bumper due to getting a little too friendly with the mountain. That's all I know of, except for one of the Subie's that was overheating.

Wow... I don't doubt it though. That drive was total mayhem until we were spread out enough. The pre-event organization and planning was excellent, but there were just too many cars bunched up out there.

i had planned to go up as 1 big group to the first resting area... and then after that do groups spreaded out by 5min. Was it still too cluttered even after we were split into groups? btw i'm the guy with the overheating suby... just got the damn thing back from subaru saying they fixed the overheating problem... sigh, back to asheville i go

Good to hear you got the problem fixed. Was it the thermostat? Initially, the spacing was fine, but as we approached the accident on 276 we were already starting to bunch back up. Then the closure caused mass confusion.

people need to take their own ways. the five minute spacing disappears quickly when you get stuck behind a slow car. meeting and check points are good though.

people also have to realize its a cruise, not a cannonball race. i was driving 70% through the twisties. the roads are too uneven and gravel is everywhere. plus include falling rocks, motorcycles cheating in your lane, kids wherever, and endless bad situations. there were lots of accidents but no real injuries. i think the best way to sum up things is that someone told me "im not even driving all out". three hours later he was, and crashed his car.

j/k Brian, but I think you're right... If you want to drive "all out" spend $25 and participate in an autocross!

I do appreciate everything that went into planning and organizing this event but I think that too many of the participants thought it was a good way to show off for a big audience. Unfortunately, several folks learned their limits the hard way...

That's why I left after lunch and decided not to drive the rest of the drive. I didn't like the conditions and I was getting a bad feeling about things to come. I cut my losses and went home at 3:00pm with my car and pride intact.
