237 miles driven today (6564 total)
0 S's spotted today (14 total)
$42 spent on gas today ($888 total)

Not many miles driven today, but the 38 mile roundtrip up to the top of Pikes Peak was well worth it.

It was also great to meet up with friends here in Colorado Springs that we haven't seen in a long time. Thanks for dinner and place to stay Barbara!

As we were driving up to Pikes Peak the road went from paved to gravel...makes for an interesting drive up...

Looks like the Garmin is pretty accurate on how high up we were...

We made it and so did the very dirty S...

While we were at the top we saw these railroad tracks...don't think you want to be at the wrong end of these tracks...

Then it was time to head back down...

If you get a chance to drive up to Pikes Peak, be on the lookout for this...

Well, it's off to Rapid City, SD in the morning...

How was "reasonable and prudent" in Montana?
"Reasonable and prudent" no longer exists in MT...it was only in effect from 1995 to 1999...very disappointing since 75 is now the speed limit...but I guess that is better than 55...

That was the only reason I would ever visit Montana. Montana is now COMPLETELY worthless.

Hey guys. Good timing to go on a walk-a-bout. We are having a hurricane. We are rescheduling the Raleigh Meet from the 6th to the 20th. I know it is a week after you get home but if you can make it out to share some stories it would be great. Check the Carolinas for the details.

Stay safe.

Which Nuvi crapped out on you? Which model should I get? Not looking to spend a ton.. Just need basic functionality. Maybe $150-$250-ish preferably closer to $150

Is it possible to hardwire it? Maybe strip off the end of the DC adapter and wire it to a switched 12v source? I hate seeing wires.

$75 spent on gas today ($963 total)

Got a little late start out this morning, but it was time well spent helping a friend replace the battery in her husband's truck, he's deployed, and coming home in a couple weeks...

Spent most of the day crossing Colorado and...

Not very much to see, but we did find... CARHENGE!!!

A little farther down the road brought us to this...

Definetly have to watch out for these...

Towards evening, we finally crossed into...

Spending the night in Rapid City, with plans to see Mt. Rushmore in the morning, as well as drive a few of the local twisties that Tej, fellow S2K owner, and employee of the hotel we are staying at, (Dakota Pines Inn) told us about...

S2Krazy2, to answer your question, it was the Garmin Nuvi 205W that died on us, and we've upgraded to the Garmin Nuvi 255W, which is working great (knock on wood)
If your looking for a GPS in the $150-250 range, I'd suggest a Tom Tom, they are made by Garmin, and have close to the same functionality. The main difference is that they don't have as many Points Of Interest loaded into the system.
I think that it would be pretty easy to make the wiring disappear, all you need is a 12v source, splicing the wires in somewhere would be easy, just make sure that you check the amperage needed for the unit and use an appropriate fuse...

Good to see you visited my home state! As you can tell, not a lot to do there but make sculptures with what ever is laying around.

If your route takes you to Chicago, you're welcome to stay with us.

Thanks again Tej, for hooking us up with a place to stay, and some nice twisties on our way to Mt. Rushmore...

Spent some time and found some nice twisties in Custer National Park on our way to Mt. Rushmore...

We've seen some real jacka$$es along the road, but these take the cake...

And one of them wanted to get up close and personal...

So that's what the light looks like at the end of the tunnel...

Had to go check out the progress on Crazy Horse...

Will have to go back in 20 years...

Deadwood, SD not what it used to be...

Staying in Sioux Falls tonight, and headed for Chicago tomorrow...
