Where will you be in 2036?
According to Nova's scienceNOW podcast the asteroid Aporphis is on a collision course with planet terra firma. The size of a football stadium, Aporphis is expected to hit 1,000 miles off the left coast on Friday, April 13, 2036 (really) and will create a sunami that will be 50' tall when it reaches the coast. Aporphis will pass earth in 2029 so close that its path will be under communications sattelites.
Sending a nuclear explosive to the asteroid is thought to be counter productive and unfeasible. The only hope is to park a 20 ton space craft near it for a year or so and let its gravitational pull on Aporphis deflect its trajectory. In 2036 Bruce Willis will be over 80 years old. I doubt this plan will work either.
So, I'm thinking that I might park my baby in the garage that day.

There are a few innovative ways to prevent this object from hitting us. Thankfully, neigther Bruce Willis or nuclear bombs are involved. My vote... solar sails.
Oh, and I will be out driving my Honda S9000 roadster. (in classic GPW

I'll be 70 y/o.
Hopefully I'll be retired and not living on the west coast. I'm sure within 30 years, if this is a threat, by then somebody will find a way to have that thing miss us.
