the other nice thing about alienware versus someone like dell or HP (my current slaptop is HP) is they don't do as much preconfiguring of software you don't need or want. They let you have more choice as to how you want your machine
why dont you just bookmark the US hotmail site? 
as for windows.. im using winXP pro at home.. its damn reliable.. never crashed yet.. i bought it when it first came out.. 2 years ago? XP pro is built off the NT/win2k kernel while XP home was built off the win98/ME kernel.. not sure if this makes sense... but basically the PRO version is usually more reliable... either way this doesnt solve your japanese dilemna.. but u know..
