This is about more than singling people out, though. It's about all of us stepping up and doing what we used to do so well...self-moderating.

If my version of moderating vs. Bagel's style is what led to this I will gladly step aside completely and let him kick people in the head. I care about this community and don't want to see it be shut down.

They are trying. The problem is that, particularly lately, it seems as if a new troublemaker pops up every few days and that becomes more trouble than it's worth.

Frankly, as a moderator of this forum I feel partly responsible and can't say I wholely disagree that we deserve to be shut down.

Unfortunately...most of the regulars actually DO self-moderate...and have not given the mods any reason to lay the smack down. It's the ones who don't that affect us all. I have no problems with Brantley and The Bagel putting on the gestapo boots and laying some law down in the name of keeping the whores from goin homeless.

Why not just a quicker smackdown....Mute/Ban now.....explain later. With a Sticky spelling it out at the top of the corner....

The question that I've had about such a practice is whether banning someone quiets the noise or incites others to make more noise?

Not that I disagree with the idea, I just don't want to cause more trouble than I quell...

I mean simply that once one person is muted/banned and it seems as if things will quiet down, someone else either comes out of nowhere or for whatever reason ceases behaving as they had in the past and starts to make noise.
