I can't believe what just friggin happened to me.

I just did my first oil change (4000+ miles on the car, I figured it's time to get rid of the break in oil). Then when I'm done, I decided to go for a quick drive along the lake to warm the engine up, and check to make sure the oil level and everything else is ok.

I have no idea why, but the lake shore was friggin crowded today, road was congested. Then as I was sitting in traffic, this minivan backing out of his parking lot across the road backed right into me. I saw him backing into me, I thought he knew I was there, and when he was about a foot away, I started honking frantically, but crunch...

I was so enraged at the point, fortunately the guy (middle aged man, probably a father) was pretty calm. I kept yelling at myself, "Why did you have to come out today, Jack, why the did you have to come out today?" He said he was sorry and all. But he also said a few things that annoyed me somewhat. Like:
1. You were so small, I didn't see you.
2. Didn't you see me coming out? (of course I saw you, I was there all along, WTF was I supposed to do, back up so that you can come out?? what about the friggin cars behind me?)
3. You didn't honk, so I didn't know you were there. (I bloody did honk)

And he didn't have his insurance card with him, he did give me his number and address though (I verified with his driver's license).

My driver's side front "fender" is badly damaged. The wheels actually rub against it now. I'm so friggin infuriated right now.

Damage:

Thanks guys.

Jeff, I was so enraged at the time (more angry at my bad luck in general than anything else) that I didn't go to the police like I should. I came straight home, and called my insurance company. The person who answered the phone said a police report isn't necessary in this case, but if I'm not able to get the guy's insurance number by the end of the day today, I'm probably going to go ahead and do that.

Mikey, thanks for bring that up. I wasn't even considering until now that it could have been a lot worse (e.g., me or someone else hurt/killed).

Also, I don't hold anything against the person who hit me. He was pretty calm about things. The stuff he said, he just sort of remarked... The way I was shouting (not at him mind you, I was just shouting to release my rage, mostly at myself), he could have reacted a lot worse.

What do you think about the damage from the pics? I mean with any other car, it would simply involve replacing a fender, but no the S2000.

I really hope the structural rigidity of the monocoque isn't somehow compromised...

Honestly it doesn't look too bad. The good news is..it is bad enough to warrant a whole new quarter panel so no bondo and the like which is always a plus IMO.

Hell if they can make my car whole and a perfect match with no issues after this ..yours should be cake

You have my sympathy. No one with a nick like yours should rage with such hate.

I had a white van do the same thing to me when my S was 5 months old.

Here's the truly F**ked up part. I got the car back a month later with a whole new fender. It looked great.

I drove it across the street from the dealership to put gas in it. AND A BIG WHITE FORD TRUCK BACKED INTO THE SAME SPOT.

Both time I was stopped and blocked in so I couldn't escape. All I could to was watch.

It sucked. Be careful when you get it out of the shop
